Raising healthy, well socialized Maine Coon kittens requires a significant investment long before a kitten ever goes home.
Responsible breeders invest heavily in the health and well-being of their breeding cats. For Maine Coons, this often includes advanced health screenings such as cardiac echocardiograms (echos) to evaluate for Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy (HCM) and hip evaluations to screen for hip dysplasia. These specialized tests can cost hundreds of dollars per cat and are repeated throughout a breeding cat's life to help ensure the healthiest possible breeding program. In addition, reputable breeders perform genetic testing to identify inherited conditions and make informed, responsible breeding decisions.
Nutrition is another major expense. High quality diets are essential for growing kittens, pregnant queens, and nursing mothers. Proper nutrition supports healthy development, strong immune systems, and overall well-being. Nursing mothers and young kittens may also require additional supplements and specialized care during their earliest stages of growth.
Beyond food and health testing, there are countless everyday expenses involved in raising a litter. Litter, bedding, toys, enrichment items, cleaning supplies, scratching posts, and other care essentials quickly add up when caring for multiple kittens around the clock.
Veterinary care is also a substantial investment. From prenatal care and pregnancy monitoring to vaccinations, wellness exams, deworming, microchipping, and ongoing health evaluations, responsible breeders dedicate significant resources to ensuring every kitten gets the best possible start in life.
By the time health testing, veterinary care, nutrition, supplies, registration fees, and countless hours of hands on socialization and care are considered, the cost of responsibly raising a litter of Maine Coon kittens can easily reach many thousands of dollars.
For ethical breeders, the goal has never been to produce kittens
Our Visitation Policy
For the health and safety of our cats, kittens, children, and family, we do not offer in-home visits.
Young kittens have developing immune systems and can be particularly vulnerable to viruses, bacteria, and other illnesses that may be unintentionally carried into our home on clothing, shoes, or hands. Limiting outside traffic is one of the most effective ways we can help protect the health and well-being of our cats and kittens.
We understand that families naturally want to see where their kitten is being raised, which is why we offer FaceTime or video calls so you can meet the kittens, see their personalities, and view their environment in real time. Throughout the process, we also provide frequent photos, videos, and updates so families can follow along and watch their kitten grow.
When it is time for your kitten to go home, you will of course meet your kitten in person. By that stage, kittens are older, stronger, and have received age-appropriate veterinary care and vaccinations to help them transition safely into their new homes.
While we understand that many people would love to visit, the health of our cats and the privacy and safety of our family will always come first. We appreciate your understanding and look forward to sharing your kitten's journey with you every step of the way.
